Lucas’ garish, realistic paintings present surreal situations, in which terror, fear, and forlornness are visualised in a comic book style. Her images are staged as though a theatre piece, complete with stage space, silhouettes, and masks. Her new work show often large-scale paintings close-ups of our everyday surroundings to which we often pay little attention. With buzzing colors and a careful, almost abstract composition, she brings the beauty of everyday objects into our consciousness.
