About the artist
In Khatiri’s paintings, dolls are brought to life, acting strangely in dark, mysterious colour spaces, as if they were arranging chaos. The fairytale and enigmatic turmoil appear surreal. We might wonder whether the dolls generate this turbulence, or if they are exposed to it. Because of their artificiality, puppet representations in art are often thought of as a disturbing projection of human action. With this tradition, Khatiri further dramatises the created scenes.
