“Weeds I”, Glyn Newman (UK)⎜MI19/369/3,

Glyn Newman’s abstract linocuts explore industrialization, nature and human beings – focusing on human interaction with both the urban and natural world. In his pieces, many somewhat abstract elements can be interpreted differently. Some seem to represent living beings or urban elements, whilst others depict more organic components. Monochromatic colours are used, reminding us of the oppressive chimney smoke seen during industrialization.

Newman’s prints are made through the linocut printing technique, where a lino block is carved and then inked. Small thin lines in the prints give us an insight into this carving process; whilst also creating abstraction.
